What is the Steel Calculator?
A steel calculator estimates the weight of reinforcement steel needed for RCC slabs, beams, columns and footings using thumb-rule percentages of concrete volume.
Formula
Steel weight (kg) = Concrete volume × 7850 × Steel ratio
- 7850 — Density of steel in kg/m³
- Steel ratio — Typical: slab 1%, beam 2%, column 3% of concrete volume
Step-by-step example
Setup: 10 m³ RCC slab at 1% steel.
- Steel volume = 0.1 m³
- Weight = 0.1 × 7850 = 785 kg
Answer: ≈ 785 kg of steel for a 10 m³ slab

Does this replace a structural designer?
No. Always get a licensed structural engineer to design and detail rebar — these thumb-rules are for budgeting only.
