What is the Tile Calculator?
A tile calculator estimates how many tiles you need for a floor or wall and the total cost, with a wastage allowance for cuts and breakage.
Formula
Tiles = ceil(Floor area / Tile area × (1 + wastage %))
- Wastage — Typically 5–10% for floors, 10–15% for diagonally laid tiles
Step-by-step example
Setup: 180 sq.ft. floor, 2×2 ft tiles, 10% wastage.
- Tile area = 4 ft²
- 180 / 4 × 1.10 = 49.5 → 50 tiles
Answer: ≈ 50 tiles
